Tomorrow is Brandon's school picture day and Matthew's is Thursday. Both boys are in dire need of haircuts and Brandon was going to wear the same red polo shirt he wore last year until I jerked something new out of the drawer. I trimmed Brandon's hair (a little bit) and Matthew's hair (a little bit more). Brandon has the same wiry, thick, coarse hair that I do. He'll never go bald, but he'll never be able to do much with it.
School picture week brings back all the bad memories of my school pictures past. I guess I kind of started out badly by attempting to cut my own hair a few days before kindergarten pictures. My parents have a late 1970's picture of me with very uneven bangs. Evidently, this was just before Easter, too. I think I remember cutting my hair (vaguely) and I thought I was doing Mom a favor.
Anyway, the horror of school pictures continued, year after year, until I finally reached my senior pictures. They weren't so bad, I guess. Ninth grade pictures were okay, even if I did have braces. Tenth and eleventh grades were horrible, trust me. I don't even possess any of these pictures to post for evidence, and if I did, it would be very humorous. For you.
I don't think I'm very photogenic, and this was reinforced in law school, when we had our 3rd year portraits made for the huge display which will hang forever in the law school hall (or at least until enough years pass that they run out of room and then it will most likely be stored in a dusty old warehouse somewhere). When I sat down on the stool to have my portrait made, the photographer said something like, "Oh, you're one of them, aren't you?" and handed me the 'clicker' thing so I could take my own picture. Presumably, this would allow me to relax and click the picture when I felt like it. One of the pictures came out decently enough to submit for the picture montage.
Anyway, Brandon and Matthew's pictures usually come out very cute. I hope that they don't have the same fear of school pictures that I did. Maybe it's different for guys, I don't know, but I am SO glad school pictures are over. Now I just have to worry about my picture on our work website . . .
